Forum Rules
1. Discussion about any and all subjects is encouraged. The staff only asks that subjects are discussed in their proper sections. If you are unsure where a topic should go, simply ask a staff member or read the section description.
2. All sides of a discussion must be considered in order for an effective discussion to be held. If you hate/heavily dislike talking to people who have a different opinion than you do not participate in discussions.
3. While freedom of speech is promoted on this site, you must be prepared to defend your argument if you enter a discussion. Do not take people disagreeing with you as a personal attack as disagreements are something common place in philosophical discussions.
4. Due to this forum being a Proboards forum, the members and the staff are expected to comply with Proboards’ TOS. The TOS can be read here . If Proboards’ TOS are violated it can lead to the deletion of this forum.
5. There are various types of trolls. The ones we ban are unfunny trolls that attack the site and/or its members directly. Just because what someone said offends you does not mean that they were attacking you. Pointing out that what you said was wrong and/or not thought out well is not attacking you. Again, this is something you should expect out of a philosophy discussion.
6. Understand that different members have different educational backgrounds in philosophy. Some may have taken six or more philosophy classes, but some may have never taken a philosophy class in their entire life. I recommend that you have patience with those members who are new to philosophy and try to teach them about it rather than attacking them for their lack of experience in the subject.
Punishment for breaking the rules
When a violation of the rules or the TOS occurs, the staff reserves the right to determine if the offense is mild, medium, harsh, or severe. This determination will vary staff member to staff member. If you feel that you received a warning or a ban that you didn’t deserve do not hesitate to e-mail another staff member about the warning/ban. I will be encouraging the staff to discuss offenses and punishments before handing out warnings or bans so do not assume that the staff member you PMs you your warning or ban was the only one behind you receiving a warning or ban.
1. If you commit a mild offense you will be given a warning (each warning counting as a strike). Three strikes are equivalent to a medium offense.
2. If you commit a medium offense or receive your third strike, your punishment shall consist of a ban for either a few days to a week.
3. If you commit a harsh offense (or three medium offenses) you will receive a ban that can last up to a month.
4. If you commit a severe offense (such as trolling) you will receive a permanent ban.
